2. Introduction to Vickers hardness
Vickers hardness is a standard for expressing the hardness of materials. Vickers hardness test is mainly used in material research and scientific testing for small load Vickers hardness test, mainly used to test the hardness of small precision parts, surface hardening layer hardness and effective hardening layer depth, surface hardness of plating, hardness of thin sheet material and fine wire, hardness near knife edge, hardness of dental material, etc. Since the test force is small and the indentation is small, the specimen appearance and serviceability can be unaffected.
The Vickers hardness tester has a wide measuring range and can measure almost all metal materials used in industry, from very soft materials (a few Vickers hardness units) to very hard materials (3000 Vickers hardness units).
The value in front of HV is the hardness value, followed by the test force. If the test force holding time is not the usual 10-15 seconds, the holding time should also be marked after the test force value. For example: 600HV30/20 means that a test force of 30 kg is used and held for 20 seconds, resulting in a hardness value of 600.
